Saying goodbye to Freshman year...

Saying goodbye to Freshman year

Every day seems filled with its own set of surreal, sad, and then determined moments. Cleaning out Room #307 was a little eery. The leftover food, posters, clothes, and KU memorabilia, schedules, and to-do lists. All life in room #307 came to an abrupt end.

Sadie's last day in her dorm was the Friday prior to Spring Break. She was heading with her KU English class to a London study abroad that focused on writing about their experiences. There was uncertainty about leaving -- the virus was spreading. But at that time, there were few countries that were 'level 3' indicating 'do not travel.' But as Sadie's 10-day study abroad stretched onward, more and more people were becoming infected with the virus and more and more flights were being cancelled. IN fact, the day Sadie and her group traveled home was the last day President Trump allowed flights from the UK to the US that included non-US citizens. She made it home safely, through the crowds and full flight to a 14-day self-quarantine. That, too, did pass.

Now, she's living back at home working on finishing up her freshman classes. Everyday, she's working hard, not missing a beat, and enjoying extra family time that should have been spent with friends and peers at the University of Kansas. Nevertheless, we feel blessed. We're all currently healthy and ready to learn from whatever God has to share with us.

2020 will be one for the books. The year Covid-19 changed our lives and social distancing became the most used set of words to describe the biggest change in our day-to-day lives. No complaints. God is good. Let's just get through this.
